Legislative elections in Hungary – April 11 and 25, 2010.
On the 11th and 25th of April, Hungarians will go to the polls to re-elect, for a term of four years, the 386 members of the Orszaggyules, one of the houses of Parliament. Four parties are currently represented in Parliament: the Socialist Party (MSZP), in power since 2002; the Young Democrats Alliance (FIDESZ), led by Viktor Orban; the Alliance of Free Democrats (SZDSZ), a former member of the governing coalition; and the Democratic Forum (MDF). Given the prevailing crisis in the country and the unpopularity of the government, the MSZP should suffer a real setback. But what will be the magnitude of FIDESZ’s victory? According to the most recent opinion polls, FIDESZ should receive 40% of the vote in the first round, followed by MSZP with 15% and the Jobbik Party (extreme right) with 7%. One-third of voters are still undecided.
