16th November 2009On 12th November the European Commission delivered its report with regard to progress achieved with regard to the accomplishment of goals in terms of CO2 emissions. This report stresses that the EU is on the right path to respecting commitments made as part of the Kyoto Protocol. According to estimates EU15 should achieve the goal of reducing emissions by 8%. Amongst the 12 other States, 10 have made individual commitments, ie a reduction of 6% and 8% of their emissions in comparison with the reference year. The means implemented to achieve this result are notably the application of policies and measures already adopted but also the acquisition of quotas and credits by participants in the community emissions trading system (ETS).
