16th November 200918 million Romanians are being called to ballot on 22nd November next in the first round of the presidential election as well as for a referendum on the reform of Parliament. 12 people are running for the post of president. The most recent poll places outgoing President Traian Basescu (PD-L) in the lead in the first round with 34% of the vote followed by Mircea Geoana (PSD) 30%, Crin Antonescu (PNL) 18%, Sorin Oprescu (Mayor of Bucharest)14%, Vadim Corneliu Tudor, 3%, Kelemen Hunor and George Becali, 1% each. With 46% of the vote Traian Basescu would be beaten in the second round by Mircea Geoana who is due to win 54% of the vote. He would also be beaten by Crin Antonescu, 49% to 51% and even by Sorin Oprescu (49/51).
