26th July 2010The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton took part in an international conference in Kabul on 20th July rallying representatives from over 70 donor countries. Participants expressed their suppport for Hamid Karzai's project gradually to take on greater responsibility in the management of his country's affairs and to guarantee full security as from 2014. They also gave their support to the Afghan government's "reconciliation programme" with the Taliban. In addition to this Catherine Ashton presented the priorities in continuing the EU's work in Afghanistan which includes the reform of the justice and police sectors as well as Human Rights.
