The European Union steps up its sanctions against Belarus
26th March 2012On 23rd March the European Union announced that it was stepping up the restrictive measures it is taking against Belarus. Hence 12 people who "benefit from the Belarus government and who support it" or who take part in the repression of the opposition have been added to the list of people who are banned entry into the Union and whose assets have been frozen. The assets of 29 organisations, whose leaders support the regime have also been frozen. At present more than 200 people and three companies have been affected by the measures to freeze assets and the ban on them entering the Union.
