The opposition overthrows the government, Victor Ponta, new Prime Minister
30th April 2012Romanian President Traian Basescu, appointed the head of the left opposition, Victor Ponta as Prime Minister on 27th April. He succeeds Mihail Razvan Ungureanu, in office for the last three months, who was overthrown by a motion of censure on the same day. "It is a limited mandate until the general elections (planned in November) when I shall try to guarantee governance that gives Romanians the hope that things will develop in the right direction declared Mr Ponta, aged 39. He now has ten days to form a government which will have to approved by Parliament.
