Erasmus, a European success story
14th May 2012According to figures released by the Commission on 8th May the Erasmus student exchange programme is the one that is best know twenty years after it was launched. A total of 231,000 students benefited from it in 2010-2011, and there have been 2.5 million Erasmus students since 1987; it is the most successful programme in the world. Students' favourite destinations are Spain, Germany and France. "Erasmus study and training periods enable the acquisition of competences that are more precious than ever in these difficult times," maintains Androulla Vassiliou, the Commissioner in charge of education, culture and youth.
