The Commission undertakes the first Schengen "healthcheck"
21st May 2012On 16th May the European Commission published its first "healthcheck" on the Schengen Area. This report covers the period November 1st 2011 to 30th April 2012. The Schengen Area represents over 400 million Europeans and 1.25 billion trips yearly. This report looks more specifically into the situation of Schengen's external borders and also inside the Schengen Area, the implementation of the Schengen rules and visa and residence permit delivery procedures. According to the Commission the control of the external land and maritime borders is still a priority.
