Do Europeans still believe in the EU?
18th June 2012Notre Europe has published a study entitled "Do the Europeans still believe in Europe?". It lays out the development of public opinion about the EU over the last 25 years. From a qualitative point of view it shows that Europeans are mostly aware of the need for a strong, united Europe as well as the existence of an historic, cultural community and of some common values. Europeans seem to support a wide field of action for the EU. However the Union is still seen through national prisms and "factors of disenchantment", which differ depending on the country, still exist. The study recalls that European integration should take on board public opinion so that it can continue and avoid self withdrawal.
