Record fine for Microsoft
2nd July 2012On 27th June 2012 the European Court condemned Microsoft to the payment of a fine of 860 million euros for not respecting European competition rules. As early as 2004 the European Commission had indeed already asked the American company to provide its competitors with the necessary information for them to be able to design compatible software at reasonable prices. In 2008 Microsoft was fined a first time to a total of 899 million euros for not respecting these two rules. Microsoft then, unsuccessfully tried to have this decision annulled, even if though the fine had been reduced slightly thanks to some work undertaken by the company.
