Appointment
NATOThe Chief of Staff of the French Army, Stéphane Abrial was appointed "Supreme Allied Commander for the Transformation" of NATO on 29th July. This command is one of two which returns to France on its reintegration of the integrated military command of the Atlantic Alliance. "This appointment, after that of General Stolz, confirms the strengthening of Europe's role within the Alliance, that was the focus of the decision taken by France to assume its place totally within NATO's command," stressed French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The Allied Command for Transformation (ACT), created to support the transformation and interoperability of NATO's armed forces, is responsible for the development of military capabilities and the examination of the challenges, needs and future missions facing the Atlantic Alliance.
