Women for Europe and Citizens' initiative

The Robert Schuman Foundation in partnership with the European Commission's DG Education and Culture, the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, the Karamanlis Institute for Democracy organised a conference on Wednesday 21st September 2001 at the European Parliament entitled "Women for Europe and the Citizens' Initiative". This conference aimed to explain how the citizens' initiative could be a new tool to promote women in Europe. Three panels took place during the day: • The first was devoted to the story behind the citizens' initiative and the issues at stake. • The second panel presented the results of the survey and explained what European women were expecting. The question of parity was the focus of debate. • The last panel endeavoured to explain how the citizens' initiative could be used to promote parity in Europe.
